When Ashley and I met on April 16, 2019. When we talked all about her wedding day dreams, she (we) never dreamed it would turn out the way it did. Faced with the tough decision of whether or not to continue with their wedding day during a pandemic was not on the agenda. But ya know what – the day could not have been anymore beautiful or perfect. LOVE won that day!!! April 18th 2020 in Cape Charles, Virginia will not be defined by COVID-19 but rather the day Ashley and Ben became husband and wife!! Follow along to read and see all their beautiful details.
As soon as I arrive to any wedding the first thing I do after congratulating the bride is to photograph all the pretty details. These include heirlooms, shoes, veil, dress, invitation suit, etc. When I meet up with Ashley, she hands me a box FULL of amazing pieces!! She thoroughly thought out all the people she wanted to represent on her wedding day. Each piece photographed has immense meaning to her and I just loved how special it was. Ashley got ready at her and Ben’s adorable bed and breakfast right outside of Cape Charles, Virginia. She was accompanied by her mother and two friends who encouraged, and helped do hair and makeup.
The ceremony was held at St. Charles Catholic Church. When we arrived, their family and close friends lined the streets in their vehicles with some standing on the sidewalk. Such a heartwarming sight to see loved ones still there to support this couple! The ceremony was a traditional catholic wedding while abiding by the 10 person or less rule of proximity. Those in attendance inside the church included only their parents (and the grooms brother who handled live streaming the ceremony for guests who wanted/should have been there). We even opened the doors of the church so family and friends outside could get a glimpse. While this was not the ceremony Ashley and Ben envisioned for their big day, there was something so special about the intimacy of it.
After the ceremony we adventured to the beach to capture a quick photo by the LOVE sign by the beach. I’m pretty sure the wind had to of been 20+ miles an hour and the temp dropped greatly!! But these two were troopers and braved the elements for their quick pics by the sign. Then we headed back to their air-bnb for some bride and groom portraits. Y’all – this place was BEAUTIFUL!! Such a cute quaint little place. When we found the dock with the sunset in the background my heart skipped a beat with joy!!
What started out as a rainy/gloomy day with so many uncertainties, ended so perfectly with two people vowing to love each other forever. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to document this special day for Ashley and Ben!! Looking forward to continuing the fun in August when they renew their vows in front of ALL their friends and family!!
Congratulations to Ashley & Ben
