Kicking off my blogging hiatus with a family near and dear to my heart. I’ve done countless sessions for them from weddings, to family sessions, maternity, senior, and more. This time, it was Maddie’s surprise proposal in Kill Devil Hills, NC!!! Y’all the amount of excitement I had for this one was HUGE!!!!
Maddie and Kevin have been together for years and I first saw them together at her sister’s wedding which I photographed back in 2020. Maddie was the Maid of Honor, for her sister Hannah, and did a fabulous job. When Hannah told me about the plan for Kevin to propose to Maddie at their extended family session in the OBX, I of course had to say yesss!!!
Session day came and the weather was nothing like we had planned or hoped for. It was a slightly overcast day, a little on the “chilly side” for a summer day, and winds about as fast at 30mph. But this was the only day we could do the session because some of Kevin’s family was sneaking in for the surprise proposal. We braved the elements and totally made it work!!
The whole family was in on the surprise proposal. Our plan was to begin with whole family photos then once it was time for Kevin and Maddie’s portion he’d propose then. As soon as Kevin’s family showed up he got down on one knee behind Maddie and PROPOSED!!! It was so beautiful and Maddie was beyond happy!! Afterwards we headed back to their cottage to celebrate and get some photos of everyone together.
Beyond thankful I was able to be there to capture this exciting occasion!! We’ve actually worked together on documenting their engagement session since then too. Be on the lookout for Maddie and Kevin pt. 2 because their fall inspired Williamsburg engagement session was epic 😉
